This is a more in depth discussion of the first step identified in the initial article: Taming the Mind Monster. The first step follows:
Step 1 to Selling or Buying a Property (from Taming the Mind Monster)
Blank piece of paper or computer where you can write down (type) all of your thoughts about selling/buying/renting/financing your current property or the one you are considering acquiring. This includes emotions such as fear (what if the property doesn’t sell? What price should I sell for?….), joy (property sold in record time), support (my team was or wasn’t awesome…) and any other thoughts or emotions that come up.
The one item I want to highlight is not the emotions you are or will be experiencing. It is to write them down. It does not matter if it is in a journal, piece of paper, napkin, electronic tool, etc. The key is to capture them.
You may not be aware that any emotion can best be enjoyed or addressed once it is out of your head and written somewhere. This is because it is now captured and you don’t need to keep taking up mind space and imagination. It now becomes real.
Once it becomes real you can ask yourself, is this true? Do I really believe this? You will probably question yourself when you start having these kinds of emotions or thoughts.
Even questions of how to accomplish the purchase or sale can be addressed. The best answer would be who can help me address my question or concern.
You do not need to do it alone. I’ve read that today’s world requires collaboration. Why? Because things are becoming so specialized that not having a go to source means it will take you longer and potentially more expensive to find and implement the solution.
Some or many may disagree with what I am about to say but here it goes. I believe anyone can do anything they put their mind to. The overall problem is, do you have the time and money to learn, make mistakes, and correct by the time you need to execute. The answer is usually no.
This is why you need a trusted team or believe it or not a project manager/consultant, who can help execute. You need to build a team you fee good about reaching out and following through with recommendations.
Capture > Evaluate > Collaborate is the theme of Step 1. Do this and everything will become easier and usually done faster than waiting for you to do it all yourself.
