Why get upset?

This is coming up more often now than ever, and I am bringing this up for those either in the middle of selling or buying real estate. It doesn’t matter if you buy or sell as an owner-occupant or investor.

I have spoken to several buyers and sellers recently, and they have voiced their frustration, aggravation, and any other word you want to use because of the offer they made or received.  What they have forgotten, or no one has shared with them, is that in real estate, only what is on paper is real.  Therefore, you must make or receive an offer as the start of a conversation.  There is a whole process of offering and counteroffering so all parties can agree.

Remember, you do not have to accept an offer.  All you have to do is say, “No Thank You.”  Most people are not trying to take advantage of you.  They have their formula on how they came up with their offer (which would probably be a good thing to ask them how they came up with that number), and of course, you have your formula on how you came up with your number (which is good to have that handy).

Please accept and recognize that in a real estate transaction, the Buyer is always trying to get a bargain or reasonable price (which we should all be doing), and the Seller is trying to maximize their return on their investment (which we should all be doing).

Save yourself a lot of angst by accepting that you will receive some reasonable and unreasonable offers, and you have the freedom to decide if it works best for you.

Wishing you the best in Buying or Selling with a little less upsetness.
